L&T Secures its Largest Offshore Order from QatarEnergy LNG

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received an offshore contract from QatarEnergy LNG for the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Project (NFPS COMP 4), the company announced in an exchange filing on Wednesday. The contract is classified as 'ultra mega,' L&T's highest classification. Orders in this category start at Rs 15,000 crore, which is L&T's largest single order ever, though the precise amount has not been made public.

The contract, according to Chairman and Managing Director SN Subrahmanyan, is a "landmark achievement," which will greatly bolster the company's global energy portfolio.

"Securing QatarEnergy LNG's Ultra Mega Offshore Contract, the largest single order in our history, is a significant accomplishment... I thank QatarEnergy LNG for putting their trust in L&T to complete this complex and strategically significant project. We look forward to setting new benchmarks in project execution that will strengthen Qatar's position as a global LNG leader," he said.

The contract covers the engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of two offshore compression complexes. These complexes will provide living quarters for operational personnel.

The platforms will be located about 80 kilometers off the northeast coast of Qatar, bolstering the country's position as a global leader in liquefied natural gas (LNG) production.

Qatar Energy LNG

The LNG production division of QatarEnergy, the nation's state-owned petroleum corporation, is known as QatarEnergy LNG (formerly Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Limited or Qatargas). One of the biggest LNG producers in the world, it was established in 1984 and currently runs 14 LNG trains with a combined yearly production capacity of 77 MTPA. QatarEnergy intends to grow its business. The North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS) expansion projects will add six new LNG mega trains, bringing Qatar's total liquefaction capacity up from 77 MTPA to 126.
