In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into a digital powerhouse, global technology leader International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) will soon open a cutting-edge software lab in the state capital.
With this, Lucknow will become a major artificial intelligence (AI) hub. An IBM delegation met with the CM on Tuesday to present the project's blueprint and discuss key details, including job creation potential.
Yogi assured the delegation that the state government fully supports IBM's technological expertise, which he believes will significantly boost the IT/ITeS sector in Uttar Pradesh while also nurturing local talent.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said, "The new software lab in Lucknow will be critical in accelerating the state's economic growth by creating jobs and engaging local talent." It will accelerate AI-driven innovation, increase productivity and efficiency, and improve public service delivery. We hope to transform Lucknow into a 'AI City'—a hub for developing talent, cultivating ideas, and establishing a thriving AI ecosystem. IBM's expansion is perfectly aligned with our mission to strengthen the technology sector, improve skill development, and provide opportunities for our youth."
The software lab will be established at Platinum Mall in Sushant Golf City, according to the proposal. It will be one of IBM's largest software development centres in India, focusing on software engineering, design, and development in accordance with global standards.
The upcoming software lab will concentrate on creating cutting-edge AI-powered solutions that use both large language models (LLMs) and small language models (SLMs) to meet emerging technological needs.
The facility will use global software engineering, design, and development best practices to deliver transformative digital solutions. By accelerating the adoption of AI-driven innovations, the lab hopes to boost productivity, improve operational efficiency, and serve as a key enabler in the advancement of citizen services.
IBM's expansion into Lucknow represents a significant step toward strengthening Uttar Pradesh's technology ecosystem. The lab will be critical to upskilling the workforce and creating new job opportunities, particularly for the state's youth.
"IBM's software lab expansion in Uttar Pradesh marks a significant milestone for India and the global tech community. India's new era will be powered by technology, talent, and an ecosystem that fosters creativity and innovation. The Lucknow Software Lab will leverage regional talent to develop next-generation AI solutions, strengthen digital capabilities, and make a significant contribution to India's digital transformation," said Sandeep Patel, MD of IBM India and South Asia in a statement.
Vishal Chahal, vice president of IBM India Software Labs, said in a statement, "Innovation is the driving force of progress. Our new software lab in Lucknow is dedicated to fostering innovation, making a long-term impact, and supporting government-led initiatives using the power of AI."
